Meet Tim

Tim is an eastern North Carolina native who made Raleigh home. He was born and raised in Greenville, where his father worked for nearly three decades as a public-school teacher and his mother works as a physician on the front lines of the opioid epidemic. Tim is a proud, lifelong product of North Carolina public schools. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, Tim chose to become a lawyer to stand up for working people and civil rights, receiving his law degree with honors from UNC School of Law, where he served on the North Carolina Law Review and was inducted into UNC’s Order of the Golden Fleece.

After graduating from law school, Tim moved to Raleigh to start his legal career as a law clerk on both state appellate courts. In 2019, he married his wife, Landen, who is completing her PhD at NC State University. Tim serves on the North Carolina Bar Association Appellate Rules Committee and the Raleigh Human Relations Commission. In 2015, he was also selected for the inaugural class of Jamie Kirk Hahn Fellows with the Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation in Raleigh.

Where Tim Stands

Working Families

Working families need help. The costs of living are rising, but wages have not kept up, and it is getting harder to afford a home. As your representative, Tim will be a strong advocate for working families. He will fight to bring well-paying jobs to North Carolina, raise the minimum wage, and ensure workers’ rights, including the right to join a union and the right to compensation if injured on the job. Tim will push for relief for poor and working families, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, while ensuring big corporations pay their fair share. He will work to make housing affordable for all North Carolinians.

Education

Tim is a proud, lifelong product of North Carolina public schools. As the son of a public-school teacher, he knows that strong, well-funded public schools are the foundation not only of our children’s futures, but of our state’s future. Great public schools start with a great teacher in every classroom, but Republicans have refused to pay teachers what they deserve, resulting in a teacher shortage. Tim supports raising teacher pay to above the national average to recruit and retain the best teachers for North Carolina. Tim will fight to restore the funding to public schools cut by Republicans so that every child has the education they need to succeed.

Reproductive Healthcare

Tim unequivocally supports the right to abortion. After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Republicans in North Carolina and elsewhere have shown they want to further restrict and even ban abortion. He knows a woman’s decision to obtain an abortion is a private decision between her and her doctor and lawmakers should not interfere in personal health matters. Tim will fiercely fight against any new restrictions on abortion. He will uphold Governor Cooper’s veto of such bills.

Voting Rights and Democracy

Tim knows that the right to vote is how we protect all other rights. During law school, Tim fought against discriminatory voting laws. He opposes efforts to restrict the right to vote. Tim believes that voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around. He will work to end partisan and racial gerrymandering in drawing district lines. Finally, Tim refuses to take corporate PAC money and will work for campaign finance reform to get big money out of politics.

Environment

All North Carolinians deserve clean air and clean water. Tim will fight to protect these precious public resources and hold corporate polluters accountable. He knows that climate change, one of the greatest challenges we face, is not just coming—it is already here. To fight it, we must build an economy that runs on clean energy, not dirty fossil fuels. Tim will work for environmental justice to ensure the effects of pollution and climate change do not fall on poor communities and communities of color. And as a North Carolina native, Tim grew up loving our state’s scenic beauty from the mountains to the coast. He will conserve and protect North Carolina’s green spaces and wildlife for future generations.

Gun Safety

Tim will work to end the mindless menace of gun violence and keep North Carolina families safe in our schools and communities by pushing for sensible gun safety laws, such as universal background checks and red flag laws that keep guns out of the hands of those who pose extreme risks to themselves and others. Tim supports gun rights and the Second Amendment. He also knows that basic safety measures can protect our children and prevent needless death.
